In 1980, a seven-year-old boy from Fetala, a small rural village in Kabylia without electricity or water, learned that Queen Elizabeth II had visited Algeria. Decades later, that boy, Malek Semar, our president, was welcomed by His Majesty King Charles III at St. James’s Palace.

A Royal Invitation to Act for Nature

On October 15, 2025, for the seventh anniversary of NWNU, Malek Semar and Sabah Kaddouri attended the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA) Nature-First event, hosted by HM King Charles III.

No Water No US had the privilege to be part of the workshops at St. James’s Palace among a selected
group of Scientists, Experts, NGOs, CEOs, Business and Indigenous Leaders to elaborate solutions to
accelerate the transition to a Nature-First economy. Our recommendations are intended for HM King
Charles III, with the purpose of being implemented to reshape the world as it should be. The Circular
Bioeconomy Alliance was established by HM King Charles III in 2020, and led by Marc Palahi.

“Your Majesty, it is an honor to meet you, Sir. Thank you for your commitment to facilitating projects that prosper within nature,” said Malek Semar.

Reconnecting with Nature

At the event, scientists, NGOs, business, and indigenous leaders gathered to rethink humanity’s relationship with nature. No Water No Us contributed to workshops focused on restoring balance between nature, economy, and education, presenting recommendations later shared with the King.

For NWNU, the message is clear:
“No Water No Nature, No Nature No Future.”

As King Charles III reminded participants:

“There is no future for business as usual. We must restore balance and put nature back at the centre of our economy.”

A Journey Marked by Gratitude

The day ended with English humor from the palace photographer:

“I took the wedding photo of the bride and groom, but it wasn’t on the day of the wedding.”

A fitting reflection for an event that captured timeless values, connection, purpose, and legacy.

“Between the journey and the destination, I prefer the company,” said Semar, thanking Marc Palahí, Director of the European Forest Institute, for his leadership and friendship.

As No Water No Us celebrates seven years of impact, its mission remains as vital as ever:
To give water a voice, and through it, give humanity a future.

Epilogue: Seven Years, One Message

For No Water No Us, the number 7 has become symbolic : a reflection of cycles, rebirth, and the rhythm of nature itself. As the organization enters its seventh year, its mission remains constant:
To give water a voice, and through it, give humanity a future.

“Life is a process of eternal restarting. To own the day, we need water.”
